Every now and then, we all can't quite make out what somebody just said. Sometimes, you fill in the blanks with whatever it is you've been thinking about. If Amazon's Alexa works the same way, this video will really make you wonder what's been on her mind.

The young man you see in the picture is talking to Alexa in such a difficult-to-understand toddler voice that you could forgive her for failing to understand.

Remember when Palm was still very much alive, and competed against Android and iOS with it's own webOS? After HP bought the company in 2010, they promptly ran the entire OS and ecosystem into the ground and sold it to LG. Now webOS is a mere shadow of its former self, continuing to exist on various LG electronics (mostly TVs).

Today at CES, LG announced the 'Smart InstaView' line of smart refrigerators, with the first model called Smart InstaView Door-in-Door.

Just yesterday Ford announced that it was planning to bring Alexa support to its cars in the coming months, and now a second auto maker is apparently on-board. Amazon says that Volkswagen has decided to build Alexa into its vehicles and launch a new Alexa skill. There's no information about a timeline or supported models, but it's happening.

Alexa support in Volkswagen vehicles will come in two forms. When you're at home, you can use Alexa Volkswagen skill to check fuel levels, order parts, and send directions to the built-in navigation system.

Alexa adds "Computer" as a wake word, much to the joy of Star Trek fans everywhere

Amazon's Alexa assistant supports multiple 'wake words,' which serve as activation phrases for Alexa to start listening. Until now, this included "Alexa," "Amazon," and "Echo." Now Amazon has silently added "Computer" as a wake word, something that is sure to please Star Trek fans everywhere.

You can change the wake word on the online settings panel. This should work for all your Alexa-powered devices, be it an Echo or a refrigerator. Unfortunately, Alexa cannot (yet) raise shields or engage the warp engine.

Amazon Tap firmware update enables Echo-style hands free voice commands

tapHere's an interesting example of a product getting better with age. The Amazon Tap speaker was introduced as a mobile, battery-powered alternative to the Echo, with access to the same Alexa voice commands, but limited in that it could only accept said commands with a button press. This made the less-expensive Tap, while interesting, not all that much better than a smartphone for voice searches. But the latest firmware update from Amazon enables hands-free Alexa commands, like the Echo and Google's Assistant on the Google Home.

Amazon's Alexa assistant has one major advantage over the Google Home (and other competing voice assistants) - the massive amount of third-party skills. Google has a similar developer platform for Assistant, Actions on Google, but the simple fact that Alexa has been around longer means it has a more sizable collection of abilities.

Amazon announced today that Alexa has over 10,000 skills available, with a 3x increase since just September 2016.

Martian mVoice smartwatch review: Having all of the features does not always make a good watch

I love watches and wear one all the time. So I was one of those who got really excited when the first smartwatches started hitting shelves, and I remain someone who likes them. I have owned a few Android Wear devices, a couple of Pebbles, and I've even tried out the Apple Watch and various iterations of Samsung's offerings over the years. What I have not tried, until now, is the so-called "hybrid smartwatch."

Martian is not an unknown or new brand, but I have never had the opportunity to test out any of its products.

Amazon is giving developers with live Alexa skills $100 in AWS promo credits for usage charges

Amazon is throwing some developers a bone with a promotional credit on AWS for Alexa skills to help cover any incurred usage charges. Most of them use the free tier, but some do end up exceeding those limits and incur charges. Any that do can apply for a $100 promotional credit to help cover those costs.

This effectively makes it free to build and host Alexa skills. But wait, it gets better. If a developer continues to get dinged with AWS charges that exceed the initial promo credit, he or she will be eligible for monthly recurring credits to continue to host on AWS.

Huawei Mate 9 review addendum: Alexa is a flop, but it's still a great phone

Huawei used to avoid releasing high-end phones in the US, but no more. The Mate 9 was launched in the US several months ago, and it was announced as the very first phone to have Amazon's Alexa built in. However, that wasn't ready at launch, and Huawei didn't even know exactly when it would be available. Alexa finally rolled out to the Mate 9 several weeks ago, but Google sort of cut Amazon off at the knees by launching Assistant on the Mate 9 and many other phones while we were waiting for this update.

There have been a few Alexa-enabled devices from third-parties, but only Amazon's own hardware uses its fancy far-field microphones and speech processing technology. That's going to change soon, though. Amazon has announced the availability of the Amazon Alexa 7-Mic Far-Field Development Kit, which will let third-parties develop better Alexa devices.

The kit will give Amazon's partners access to the same circular 7-microphone array that's used on the Amazon Echo, which will be supported by "leading chipset providers." Amazon even provides demo hardware.
